The 29th of April, 2000 was a significant day. I became a mother. It was life changing and absolutely amazing. This weekend we had a party to celebrate his 9th birthday. We had a day of laser tag (which I didn’t take pictures at), then came back for pizza, cake and play.
His gifts from me. I got him a skateboard. He was quite excited.

I don’t get this whole backumen thing…
It was a perfect day weatherwise…
Compare that to last year:
Oh boy does Wyatt want those little things now….
Oh my gosh he looks so much like his dad!
It was a good day.

So I’ve joined the big leagues of hardcore bloggery (I made that up). I finally got the iphone app for wordpress so I can now blog on the go. How geeky is that? heh
Let’s try adding a photo or eight…These are some favourites from my recent island trip.
Well asides from all the back spacing that went well! Cool!

We had some beautiful weather, which is unusual for spring break around here. I had the opportunity to take pictures of some really great kids, Josh and Jonathan. I also took the chance to get some spring ones of my own two. Our families have been friends for a long long time, which made the session even more fun. There were lots of laughs.

We had a blast the other day with the 50mm f1.8. My D200 is a great camera, but I am excited for the day I can get my D700. For now, it hasn’t let me down, and with the 50mm, well have a look.
And one more for fun, of me. I am always leery of doing self portraits, but this one turned out, and I love the treatment. I have a few favourite photoshop actions and this one really works nice with the tones in these pictures.

What is your favourite lens for your Nikon cameras? Canon? Anyone lucky enough to have a D700 yet? What kind of fun do you have with self portraits and mirrors?

It seems that there has been a usurping of film as king. Though I am not surprised given that both test cameras used were Nikon. Because after all, Nikon is King isn’t it?
This video was interesting though, and goes to show how far the digital medium has come within the past few years. There is a beautiful feel and quality to film, I stand firmly behind that, however, in terms of client’s proofs and turnaround time, and now how large you can make those prints, digital is the clear winner. I admit I was a little shocked to see that digital won this challenge.
I will still stick by film for fine art, and for when I really need that film quality. My film camera is a Canon that was given to me after my Nikon died. It turns out beautiful shots, and I am happy with the results. But for my day to day shooting and for my clients, unless they request film, I shoot with digital. Currently I am using a D200, but can’t wait to get my hands on the full frame D700. I think really, what it boils down to, is knowing your tool, and how to use it, regardless of the type. If you are a lousy photographer with the best gear, you are still not going to get great shots. But a great photographer using a lower end camera will still get superior results.
What are your views on the film versus digital debate?

It’s been a blitz of refining my mission, branding, and portfolio. My mission, that I thought I would share here is:
It is my mission to create superior quality images that are fresh, evocative and reflect your personality and interests. I want you to enjoy the experience and have a great time, while we spend your session together. I want to tell your story and capture your important milestones and moments with honesty and style. It is my number one goal to provide you with portraits that are true works of art, that you will be proud to display and cherish forever.
In the process of doing that, I got some images that I just love.
This is baby A. She was so tiny and new. The pictures don’t really show how small she actually is. She was a perfect model. She slept through most of her session.

These two little cuties were so fun to work with, despite even the frigid cold!

This session was so much fun. It was an engagement session, with a great couple.

Next on the list, is re-organizing my site, and preparing for a spring event. Stay tuned for details about that. You will want to be a part of it!

Well in my attempt to get some quasi serious pictures to give to the family ( a little late for Christmas now I know….), we went to the studio. I realize WHY I am not usually a studio photographer! Well not with kids anyway. Pregnant bellies, newborn babies, and models? No problem. My own kids? Not so much. LOL

Anyone else have stories about trying to get their kids to do something only to have them embarrass you or wreak havoc? Photographers, share your worst studio experiences. This is the time to share.
